Quality Assurance Engineer
About The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Engineer to join our In-house Development team. This team builds custom software solutions that support Tuatahi’s fibre network, including APIs, integrations, services, and customer portals.
Working as part of the In-house Development team, you will collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Software Engineers and other delivery teams to help ensure changes work seamlessly across integrated systems. You will contribute to end-to-end quality by validating cross-system workflows and helping deliver reliable business and customer outcomes.
A defining aspect of this role is translating business requirements into clear, concise Gherkin behavioural scenarios that become living specifications for development, testing and automation. Success requires understanding both the business intent and the technical design, enabling you to define observable behaviour before development begins and helping build quality into every user story.
This role is open to those based in Auckland & Hamilton.
Skills and Experience Required:
Ensure the quality of changes across custom in-house solutions, including APIs, integrations, services, and customer-facing portals.
Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts and Software Engineers to refine acceptance criteria into executable Gherkin behavioural scenarios that become living specifications for development, testing and automation.
Own the creation and maintenance of clear, concise Gherkin behavioural scenarios for your team's user stories, ensuring they accurately describe the observable behaviour owned by your team while taking account of system boundaries and the technical design.
Support automation by collaborating with Software Engineers to build and maintain automated tests within CI/CD pipelines.
Provide clear quality insights, defect trends, and risk indicators that support informed decision-making.
Your unique contribution:
You will bridge business requirements and technical delivery creating Gherkin behavioural scenarios that become living specifications, providing a shared understanding of expected behaviour across Product, Development and Quality Engineering.
Success in this role comes from understanding both the business intent and the technical design, enabling you to define precise behavioural scenarios before development begins.
You will also need:
Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience in modern software quality engineering.
5+ years of experience in software testing or development with strong knowledge of modern testing methods and tools.
Demonstrated experience using Gherkin, BDD or Specification by Example to create clear behavioural specifications that drive development and automated testing.
Strong understanding of API testing, integration testing, and testing for distributed systems.
Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
